Rooted in legacy. Grown with love

Cultivating connection to the land, nourishing bodies and communities with purpose.

Vernon Holmes & the Quarles-Holmes Family

The Eden Preserve at Winchester was founded by Vernon Holmes alongside members of the Quarles-Holmes family, whose shared legacy is steeped in resilience, resourcefulness, and love for the land. As descendants of Black Southern farmers and community builders, we understand the transformative power of food sovereignty, land access, and generational wealth.

Planted with Purpose. Preserved by Legacy

Vernon brings a lifelong commitment to equity, community health, and sustainable development. His leadership in affordable housing, behavioral healthcare, and food security initiatives across Virginia and Maryland laid the foundation for this project. The Eden Preserve is his answer to a personal and communal call: to restore our relationship with the earth and feed our people with intention.

"This land was never meant to be idle—it was meant to grow something meaningful."

Today, Vernon works alongside relatives and local partners to turn the preserve into a space for clean food, economic development, and healing for all.
